San Diego Taiji and Qigong Association, founded by Siu-Fong Evans in 1999, is a health & friendship association. On October 28, 2001 Siu-Fong started her first Institute of Chinese Martial Arts and Culture. It is named JING after her daughter's name Jing Jing Evans. JING also means "The best of the best." The goals are to foster friendship, promote Chinese martial arts, encourage participation in martial arts competitions, and improve health and happiness.
Under the leadership of Siu-Fong Evans, Tai Chi (or Taichi, Taiji, T'ai Chi) is explained in three different languages (English, Cantonese, Mandarin) at all levels and to all ages. Students learn taijiquan, (Taichiquan), taiji sword, qigong (or chih kung, chi kung, chi gong) health exercises, Mulan quan, Mulan sword, and Mulan single and double fans. In taijiquan, Siu-Fong practices Yang, Chen, Sun, Wu, Wu (Hao), and Cheng Man Ching styles. Students are encouraged to practice with strength, grace, accuracy, and precision, Taiji rules and to help and teach each other.
San Diego Taiji and Qigong Association is one of the only groups that provides Taiji lessons by an acknowledged multi-gold medalist and international grand champion in San Diego. The association is donation-based and welcomes everyone. Meetings are held on Sunday 10:15am at Balboa Park (6th Ave. and Laurel St) and on Wednesday 7am and 5pm at Robb Field, Ocean Beach. For other locations and time, please check our classes page, or, better yet, visit our JING page!
